Redesigned Apple TV Could Be Unveiled in April

It’s been a while since Apple has made any significant changes to its Apple TV platform, about two years in fact. The Cupertino company could be coming close to changing that, with a report from Bloomberg theorising that Apple will unveil a redesigned Apple TV. The redesigned set-top box is said to include new channels, a retooled interface and a new physical appearance as well.

Even if the Apple TV is unveiled in April, Apple TV fans won’t be able to get their hands on one until the holidays. Bloomberg suggests that the timeframe may change if Apple can secure manufacturing agreements and pin down content licensing agreements in a timely manner. Apple is reportedly currently in talks with Time Warner Cable Inc. about content distribution.

“The new device, which plugs into a television set, will have a faster processor than the previous version and an upgraded interface to make it easier for customers to navigate between TV shows, movies and other online content. An agreement with Time Warner Cable would mark the first such deal with a cable or satellite company.”

The Apple TV redesign makes sense, with Apple CEO Tim Cook pledging bring plenty of innovative Apple products to the table in 2014. Clearly, Apple is not abandoning Apple TV, as it is currently in talks with content providers. This makes a new hardware solution necessary, especially if the company wants to remain viable in the home theater market.
