HTC is looking for rebound this year. To do that, it needs to grow its market share all around the world, with special focus on the emerging markets. And that’s exactly the idea behind the upcoming “New Desire 8” series.

What you can see from the image above is a mid-end phablet that looks like the Taiwanese company’s flagship offering though it doesn’t have a metallic body but the one made out of plastic. This in turn will allow HTC to have a more competitive price, while reaching new customers along the way. Speaking of whom [new customers], they will be able to choose between few color options, including white, red, yellow, orange and cyan.

Specs wise, the Desire 8 will reportedly rock a 5.5-inch screen of unknown resolution (720p HD?), front stereo speakers, 13-megapixel camera on the back and 5-megapixel front-facing camera with several beautification features. According to Engadget, this new phablet could launch on March 18th in Beijing, China, hinting us where HTC is looking for growth. Is it a sound strategy or what?
