Alcatel PIXI 7 is an ultra-low-cost tablet that will sell for just 79 Euro ($110)

We’ve seen a number of dirt-cheap tablets in our time. Alas, most of those came from little known Chinese companies; while Alcatel is now owned by China’s TCL, it’s not exactly an unknown company.

After announcing three new phones and an LTE-enabled low-end tablet, they’re out with another tablet targeting the very low-end of the market. The new Alcatel PIXI 7 has a (guess?) 7-inch screen with meager qHD (540×960 pixels) resolution. There’s also a Wi-Fi radio on board, MediaTek’s 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB or 1GB of RAM (depending on the market), a pair of low-res VGA cameras, 4GB of expandable storage and a 2840mAh battery. Perhaps more interesting, the PIXI 7 packs an IR port and Miracast support, making it ideal for smart remote control and media streaming device. Android 4.4 KitKat rather than some older version of the platform is running the show.

All this will be available for just 79 Euro (about $110) with users getting to choose between few different color versions. Initial markets will include Europe, the Middle East and Africa…
