Asus PadFones KitKat updates coming later this year

It’s a brand new world we’re living where handset makers publicly sharing their phone update plans. Asus is the latest company to join this trend, informing us when their PadFones will get the “KitKat” treatment.

The good news is that the new software is in development as we speak. The bad news – these updates won’t be launched soon enough.

The “affected” devices include the PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity (both old and new) and PadFone A80. The update will come to the original PadFone Infinity in Asia and Russia, and PadFone A80 in Europe. The PadFone 2 and the new Infinity should see KitKat in all territories.

First to get the KitKat goodies along with Asus’ updated ZenUI are PadFone 2, PadFone A80, and original PadFone Infinity, all of which will be served by the end of the second quarter. Then comes the new PadFone Infinity, which will get the same deal at some point in the third quarter.

Yeah, we would like to see new software released sooner, but there’s not much we can do about it, anyway. We can hope that Canonical folks will make sure these PadFones will be able to run Ubuntu. Now that would be something. 😉
