You know how Intel wants to help vendors make dual OS tablets and computers that can run both Android and Windows? Guess what? Google doesn’t like the idea.
Their reasoning is simple – Windows holds only a fraction of the tablet market but with devices that can run both Android and Microsoft’s platform, Windows’ market share could quickly grow.
Asus was one of the first (if not the first) company to unveil such product, but we’re certain many other OEMs are looking into launching similar devices soon.
Intel on its end wants to heavily promote this concept and will even help vendors to market these products. The chip making giant holds a tiny share in the mobile market and this strategy could help it sell more of its Atom chips.
Consumers should like idea too, as with one device, they will be able to run both Android and Windows apps.
It’s unclear what Google can do about this. While vendors don’t want to mess with the search giant, they also want to sell more devices. And with the help of Intel’s marketing budget, they could reach more customers. We’ll see how that goes. In the meantime, let me add that I personally love the idea of dual platform devices; the hardware required for Windows and Android is similar (if not the same) so why not allow it. 😉
