What you see above is the next Hongmi / Redmi phone from Xiaomi, as seen by Chinese Tenaa, which is the country’s equivalent of the FCC.

Just as we’ve heard before, the successor to the wildly popular Hongmi smartphone will grow in size, dumping a 4.7-inch display for a bigger 5.5-inch one. The screen resolution, however, will stay the same at 1280 x 720 pixels (720p HD). Other specs include an octa-core processor (likely made by MediaTek) clocked at either 1.4 or 1.7 GHz, 1GB of RAM, while Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will run the show with Xiaomi’s own MIUI singing on top. Moreover, it will rock a 13-megapixel rear camera coupled with a 5-megapixel front shooter.

The Hongmi 2 will be available in few different variants, one of which will boast China Mobile-friendly TD-SCDMA connectivity and the other – WCDMA so that it can be used with networks all around the world. Sadly, LTE version is not mentioned on Tenaa but we hope to see it joining the pack later in the year.

Again, it’s unclear whether this phone will ever leave the shores of China and few markets in Southeast Asia. We definitely want to see it hitting the Western hemisphere but no one’s asking us a thing. ;(
