Samsung Mobile CEO J.K. Shin says there is no premium Samsung Galaxy S5

Many folks expected the Galaxy S5 to sport a metal (uni)body. Alas, that hasn’t happened and what we have today is yet another plastic phone from Samsung. Truth to be told, it’s still an awesome device with few novel features such as the built-in heart rate monitor. Alas, we’ve heard that this won’t be the best smartphone the Korean company will launch this year. And I’m not talking about the Galaxy Note 4 which will debut closer to the end of the year — it is said that Sammy is keeping metal body design for its even more premium, Galaxy F series.

Samsung Mobile CEO J.K. Shin is now saying that these are just bogus rumors. There won’t be any premium S5 released this year, he said, adding that we should expect the next Note later this year. Which we knew even without him mentioning that…

Now we’re not sure what to take from this. Will Samsung really opt to pass out on the 2K screen trend this year? It’s hard to imagine something like that. Perhaps it launches some kind of Galaxy S5 Plus in the second half of the year, perhaps not. Presuming the Galaxy S5 is the only super-phone they’ll be selling in 2014, it would be hard to justify its purchase after the summer when we’ll have not one but few devices with 2K screen released. Moreover, we’ll have few full HD phones with metal bodies, which will offer the similar/same performance in a more durable design… Any thoughts?
