Looks like Amazon smartphone is still in the pipeline. The new rumor comes from The Information, which has learned that the phone is known internally as “Project Aria,” and that the online retail giant is in the midst of exploring markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America for potential launches. These markets will, naturally, follow the U.S. launch with the device hitting few of the major carriers. Which carriers are those is still a mystery. And so are many other details.
The report goes on to say that Amazon could face licensing hurdles to offer all of its content across the globe. These kinds of deals take time to materialize and we’re sure lawyers are working round the clock to make this happen.
Finally, it’s unclear which company will end-up making what we call the “Kindle phone.” Some earlier rumors suggested that could be HTC but it’s unclear at this stage whether they or some other vendor will get the privilege. More to come, obviously.
