Yesterday, Xiaomi has officially announced its latest device – Redmi Note. As we’ve told you before, this is one big phone aka phablet that comes with a 5.5-inch 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display and solid mid-end specs.

Speaking of which [specs], the Redmi Note will be available in two different versions, one boasting MediaTek’s octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage; and the other with 1.7GHz octa-core chip (again made by MediaTek), 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both versions pack a 13-megapixel camera with LED Flash and f/2.2 aperture on the back, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and a 3,200 mAh battery, while Android 4.2-based MIUI v5 is running the show.

Initially, Xiaomi will sell the TD-SCDMA variant (for China Mobile) that has two SIM card slots, one of which [slots] can take GSM-based SIM card.

The Redmi Note will be available in few color versions; 799 Yuan (about $129) gets you the 1.4GHz variant with 1GB of RAM, while the more expensive model with 1.7GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM costs 999 Yuan ($159). The phone is now available for pre-order in China from Qzone and would go on sale starting from March 26th. After that date, the Redmi Note will hit Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore in May. No word whether it is heading to the West, but you’ll always be able to get it from third-party retailers like Xiaomi World.
