Ten days ago we’ve told you that Nokia has managed to hit 1 million pre-orders for its Android smartphone in China. It turned out those pre-orders were mere registrations of interest with no firm commitment required one the users’ behalf. However, those who did left their emails were first to be asked to actually order Nokia X devices, and what do you know – many of them decided to do so.
The process was kicked off at JD.com on 10:00 am of March 24th (Beijing time) and stopped only 4 minutes later. At the point, JD.com had cleared out its Nokia X inventory!
Now we don’t know how many Nokia X units JD.com got in the first batch, but we do know that the site offered a bonus pack with free peripherals and services to the first 10,000 customers. Perhaps that also happens to be the number of the units they had at their disposal; perhaps not.
JD.com was selling the Nokia X for 599 RMB (about $97) which is a pretty sweet deal. In comparison, Nokia’s Windows Phone-running Lumia 520 is selling for 30 RMB more. One gotta wonder whether Nokia made a mistake when adopted Windows Phone over Android…
