The Samsung Galaxy S5 isn’t set to be released for another few weeks, but thanks to some clever coding by developer Chainfire, one of the GS5 variants is now rootable. According to Android Police, Chainfire rooted the SM-G900F model which is believed to be the international GSM-LTE version of the new smartphone. There’s no telling if the root method will work with other carrier variants, but could and will be easy to tweak since most of the leg work has already been done rooting the international version.

To begin the rooting process, the CF-Auto-Root tool must be flashed, instructions on how to do that can be found here. The rooting method starts by using Samsung’s ODIN to flash a recovery and then proceeds to install the SuperSU app, which re-flashes the stock recovery. The method will more than likely not work with devices that have locked bootloaders, which most U.S. carriers love to do.

So, are you getting a Galaxy S5 and can’t wait to install custom ROMs on the bad boy?
