Upcoming ZTE Apollo to rock Snapdragon 64-bit SoC?

ZTE may be among the first handset makers to launch a device powered by Qualcomm’s newly announced 64-bit chips. According to the Chinese media, the company is working on a smartphone codenamed “Apollo” as we speak, and should officially launch it in September.

Unfortunately though, we don’t know which of the two chips Apollo will use, whether that will be a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 or octa-core Snapdragon 810. In any case — even if they opt for slower Snapdragon 808 — we’ll get a device that’s more powerful than anything else currently available.

It’s important to note that this wouldn’t be the first “world’s first” title for ZTE. The Chinese firm used to have a similar deal with NVIDIA to launch Tegra 4-powered devices. Alas, many of the best ZTE phones never get to reach consumers in the West, or they launch long after anyone would care about them. Hopefully, the situation will be different this time round… More to come, obviously.
