Altek is the name of the company behind HTC One M8’s powerful dual camera. That second camera is used to assist in measuring distance, resulting in diverse image display and some amazing effects like 3D and the ability to focus on image after the photo has been taken.
As you would imagine, this capability won’t be exclusive to HTC for long. It is said that Huawei and Lenovo are already working on devices with this technology and will launch them later this year. Samsung and some other handset makers may join-in in 2015.
We love what HTC did with the All New One but at the same time we would like to see them getting some serious competition. With Lenovo and Huawei on board to use the dual camera technology, we should expect few other devices with powerful imaging capabilities. This in turn should push the prices south, which is always a good thing. Or so we think. 😉
