Samsung will finally launch its first Tizen-powered smartphone later this year. Yeah, I know – you’ve heard it all before, but this time it’s “different” or so we hope.

From what we’ve heard, this will be a rather awesome device with rock-solid specs, and will initially be available in few emerging markets after which it may or may not be introduced in the West.

According to Samsung’s senior VP for product strategy, Hankil Yoon, the original Tizen smartphone launch plan was scraped due to “poor market conditions.” We’re not sure what was changed in the meantime, but it’s likely Samsung knows what it’s doing. The plan is to focus on “a few countries where we can do well,” Yoon said.

In the other Samsung news, the company will also pursue the Android Gear opportunity and launch a smart watch relying on Google’s wearables platform by the end of this year. This in turn will make Sammy the only company to support three different smart watch platforms – Tizen, Android Gear and that custom OS Gear Fit is running. Juggling so many balls shouldn’t be a problem for a company as big as Samsung… or so we think. What do you say?
