France-based Archos unveiled its latest product – Android-powered touchscreen netbook called ArcBook.

We’re talking about a rather mediocre device with a price tag of just $170. The netbook packs a 10.1-inch screen with meager 1024×600 pixels resolution. In addition, there’s also a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 chip, 1GB of RAM, 8,000 mAh battery and 8GB of expandable storage (via microSD cards). There’s also a single-touch trackpad and OfficeSuitePro 6 preinstalled. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is running the show.

The question is whether you need the Arcbook. Short answer – no, but… This could be the perfect first laptop for a child, who won’t be able to ruin your work, cause you’ll store that part on your “regular” laptop. You’ll have hard time finding something better for $170, anyway. If you want to spend another $100, it’s a different story – you’re much better off getting a more powerful tablet and connect it to a Bluetooth keyboard…
