Now that Samsung’s flagship device has a water-resistant body, everyone and their mama are looking to add the same capability to their devices. This is despite the fact that Sony and some other Japanese vendors have been doing it for years.
Anyhow, Sony will be among those companies that will launch mid-range waterproof phones next year. We’re talking about devices that cost less than $300 off-contract, which is great. Moreover, Taiwan-based ODMs are saying they can also “handle” entry-level device orders, meaning that the process of making water-resistant phones isn’t that expensive after all.
Finally, it’s important to add that Sony is not the only one exploring this market, with other vendors lining up as well. So before you know it, we’ll be able to choose between any number of waterproof devices that don’t cost a small fortune. Pretty sweet I would say, what do you think?
