Panasonic isn’t giving up on its smartphone business yet. However, instead of going for users in the Western hemisphere, they are turning to emerging economies like India.

And that’s where they’re bringing the Panasonic P81, which should hit select retail stores across the country later this month.

The device has been teased in a video that unfortunately doesn’t reveal much about its internals. All we know is that the P81 will support colorful removable back covers and include several software features like smart app switch and Multi Window. We would assume it will also sport an HD display and quad-core chip of sorts.

UPDATE: Panosonic said that the P81 will boast an eight-core processor, likely made by MediaTek.

Recently, the Japanese firm launched the Panasonic P31 in India. This was a mid-end offering with a 5-inch FWVGA screen, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean).

We’ve no idea whether the P81 will ever be available in other countries…
