Panasonic has officially announced its latest smartphone in India – P81. As we’ve told you before, this is one big device with a massive 5.5-inch screen, which is unfortunately limited to 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Panasonic’s phablet also sports MediaTek’s octa-core chip clocked at 1.7GHz, HSPA+ connectivity, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, dual SIM capability, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

On the software side, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is running the show and there are also some of Panasonic’s own apps to enable features like Gesture Play, Dual Play and Pop-i Player. Yes, we’re hoping that the KitKat update is in the pipeline but at the moment we can’t confirm a thing.

All this comes in a 7.9mm-thin body with faux leather back; the price is set at Rs. 9900, which translates into some $170. No word whether the Panasonic P81 will ever be available in other parts of the world…
