Google’s Nest just got competition from Honeywell. Yup, Honeywell, the company hardly anyone associates with these sort of devices. Their newly announced Lyric product works in a similar fashion to Nest, connecting to your smartphone or tablet to do its magic.
Also like Nest, it will detect when you’re home or not to turn on the heating or cooling depending on your preferences and other factors like local weather. There are apparently some differences as well, some of which should make you consider going for Lyric rather than Nest. As Honeywell has put it:
The Fine Tune feature factors indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, and weather into its algorithm, enabling it to provide the most comfortable temperature for homeowners. No other do-it-yourself Wi-Fi thermostat on the market today does that.
The Honeywell Lyric is already available for purchase from professional heating and cooling contractors, with sales to the general public commencing in August. At that time, you’ll be able to get your unit for $279 from Lowe’s.
