Older Nokia X smartphones won't get the 2.0 X platform update

The other day, Microsoft announced Nokia X2, the second generation of Nokia’s Android smartphones. Once again we got to see the unique version of Android, one that looks more like Windows Phone rather than Google’s mobile platform. In fact, the latest version (2.0) of the platform reminds us on something that’s made in Redmond rather than Mountain View, featuring a number of Microsoft apps and services pre-installed.

The sad news is that some of these features won’t come to the original Nokia X range, consisting of Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. If you recall, none of these phones has the home button that is used for switching between apps. Moreover, none of the earlier Nokia X phone had 1GB of RAM which may be required for few of the newer capabilities.

Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months.

Hear that? The X, X+ and XL will get some updates, and we assume they will bring this trio closer to the brand-new Nokia X2. We’re just hoping this to be a short wait…
