Ten days ago we’ve told you that ASUS will be joining the Android Wear party later this fall, and now we have few details to add to the story. Nothing too specific, but something that should get us excited about the Taiwanese company’s upcoming offering.
During last week’s Taiwan Economic Summit in Taipei, ASUS’ chairman Jonney Shih told the media that the company has been working hard to strike the right balance between technical feasibility, price, launch timing and form factor of its smartwatch. During the design process, Shih says, ASUS has learned a lot about the trade-offs between perceptual and rational factors.
Unfortunately, he failed to reveal any specifics about what he called the “hero product,” release time-frame included. He just noted that the watch will support voice control, notifications, while allowing hand-gesture controls. That doesn’t come as surprise given the fact that all of these smart watches come with a built-in accelerometer. Still, that’s something neither the LG G Watch nor Samsung Gear Live supports… though that could change with a firmware update.
Anyway, the ASUS’ smartwatch will reportedly cost no more than $150, making it more affordable to the general public. The price will be one of decisive factors but we doubt it will be the only thing users will consider when buying one of these devices.
