Asus has apparently started working on successor to the PadFone X, which AT&T announced in January and started selling in June.

Like any other PadFone out there, this model too comes with a smartphone part and the tablet shell. Said smartphone sports a 5-inch full HD screen, 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. As for the tablet dock, it has a 9-inch display and a 4,990 mAh battery, which will add juice to the smartphone “part” when docked.

With a two-year customer agreement, PadFone X is selling for $199.99 while its off-contract price is set at $549.99.

This model also has its international variant, PadFone S, which should soon hit select markets all around the world.

If we would guess what the next PadFone X (PadFone X2?) will be all about, we would say it will have a faster processor (Snapdragon 805?) and perhaps a higher resolution tablet shell. An additional gig of RAM would also be appreciated, but we’ll take whatever we can get as long as Asus manages to release this thing before it seems outdated. For those living under a rock – that was the case with pretty much all previous PadFone models…
