Samsung Galaxy Note 4 may pack a retina scanner for extra security

Samsung had previously confirmed that it is working to make its devices more secure, thus more interesting to the enterprise customers. The new Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Mini were among the first devices made by the Korean giant that incorporate a fingerprint reader. Building from there, Samsung is apparently preparing to jump to the whole new level with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4, and include a retina scanner to the mix.

The tweet coming from the official @SamsungExynos account shows a smartphone with focus on the user’s eye, while the accompanying caption reads “Security can be improved using features unique to us.” So what else this could mean but an eye scanner?

In theory, a retina scanner can deliver an increased security, so Koreans are hoping to see a number of big companies and government agencies lining up to pick the Note 4 the second it’s out. In comparison, bypassing fingerprint scanners isn’t as hard, and in that sense – we’ve already seen how a savvy hacker can unlock the iPhone 5s with a “fake” finger.

If Samsung manages to cram a retina scanner in the Note 4, we’re certain they’ll be heavily emphasizing the capability in its future ads. Likewise, if the technology — paired with Samsung Knox — proves “secure enough,” we’re sure it will be heading to other smartphones and tablets sold by the world’s largest phone maker.

Back to the Note 4. The rumors say that it will be officially announced in September, most likely during this year’s IFA conference in Berlin, Germany. Specs wise, the new Note may sport a 5.7-inch Quad HD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or Samsung’s latest Exynos chip, at least 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel rear camera with (we hope) Optical Image Stabilization.
