Android Wear gets a web browser, for some reason…

Android Wear just got its very first web browser. No longer will you have to browse the web from your phone or tablet, the petite device around your wrist can get the job done, but… don’t expect the full blown web experience.

Don’t expect anything meaningful as this looks more like a proof of concept rather than something anyone would actually use. You’ll still need to connect the watch to your phone to get Internet connection, though.

The Wear Internet Browser (WIP) app supports bookmarks and history, pinch to zoom, voice search stuff, and allows you to open links from your phone via the Share menu. Scrolling also works and so does JavaScript. Alas, you won’t get amazing performance – this is an Android Wear device we’re talking about, one that has a slow processor to crunch big JQuery’s smoothly.

So what do you say? Want to give it a try on your LG G Watch or Samsung Gear Live? This is hardly a useful app, but you may want to experiment? If that’s the case, feel free to click the link below and try it out.

While playing with your smart watch, you may also want to install that app launcher we’ve talked about two weeks ago. That actually sounds useful…
