We’ve already told you that HTC is working on an affordable 64-bit smartphone, part of its Desire series. That model, we’re hearing, could be known as Desire 820.

According to G4Games, the unit in question will rock Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 64-bit chip that packs a total of eight Cortex-A53 cores, four of which are clocked at 1.8GHz to take on more demanding / graphic intensive tasks, and four at 1GHz for more mundane things like calls and texts.

Even though this is a 64-bit chip we’re talking about, the Desire 820 will likely be slower than the current HTC One M8. After all, the One series is made for premium devices, while Desire phones are known for their value for money. Moreover, we don’t expect front-facing speakers and an all-metal body. With the Desire series, HTC tries to make devices that more users all around the world can buy, and grow its market share in return.

Chances are we’ll see the HTC announcing the Desire 820 from the floor of the upcoming IFA trade show in Berlin when we’ll get all the missing details like the camera megapixel count, amount of RAM and internal storage, and so on. Stay tuned as we bring you more…
