The earlier rumored LG G3 Stylus has been officially announced and just as we’ve expected, it’s an entry-level device that won’t impress many. Heck, I’m not sure it will impress any existing smartphone owner in the West, but that’s not the point here.
The Korean company made this phone for emerging markets where for one reason or another people love big phones aka phablets. Perhaps it’s on-the-go media streaming that makes these sort of devices attractive to users; perhaps it’s something else.
In any case, the G3 Stylus is first heading to Brazil, with countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and CIS to follow shortly. Europe is not even on the list.
While the G3 Stylus looks like the regular G3 and shares the software “side of things,” it has a very different hardware. Instead of a Quad HD screen, this unit has a 5.5-inch qHD one — that’s 960 x 540 instead of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Likewise, it has a slower quad-core processor (likely Snapdragon 400) clocked at 1.3Ghz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, 3,000 mAh battery, and is stuck at 3G data. You do get a 13-megapixel camera on the back — along with 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera — but it lacks the fancy laser auto-focus tech. Plus, let’s not forget the included the Rubberdium stylus that gives this phone its “Stylus” moniker.
Prices and details of availability were not announced and will rather be shared locally at the time of launch.
