Huawei said this is coming and now it’s been officially announced in China. I’m talking about a special version of the Ascend P7 that comes with sapphire glass display.

Said device has been on display during the IFA show in Berlin, and it’s set to hit select stores in the next few weeks.

The sapphire glass, in case you don’t know, promises a scratch proof display, one that can be damaged only with diamonds. Chances are you’re not using diamonds for that purpose, so you’re perfectly safe holding the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition next to your keys.

Even better, sapphire glass is just one piece of the puzzle. This Ascend P7 also got a nicer metal finish around the edges, with the Chinese vendor using rose gold finish rather than the original cold texture.

Another new thing is the changed back of the phone which got a more ergonomic glossy ceramic finish to make for a more premium look and feel.

The price is still a mystery but it’s likely we’re talking about an exclusive device which will find its buyers among the more affluent (read: rich) members of the (Chinese) community. No word on global availability, though…
