Meet the first 64-bit Windows Phone: Alcatel Pop 2

Windows Phone is getting on the 64-bit bandwagon though the first device with such chip doesn’t come from a major handset maker. Rather, it’s Alcatel which made the first 64-bit smartphone running Microsoft’s mobile platform.

However, the newly announced Alcatel Pop 2 isn’t exactly a powerhouse under the hood. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 running at 1.2GHz, 4.5-inch FWVGA screen, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, dual cameras, dual SIM capability and, perhaps most importantly – LTE connectivity support. In other words, it’s a Windows Phone version of the same-named Android device.

The price is set at 119 EUR, making it one of the most affordable devices with Windows Phone on the market.

Folks from Drwindows.de managed to play with a single unit during the IFA 2014 show, and here’s the video they recorded at that time:

I think it’s low-cost Windows Phones that will help Microsoft grow its share; rather than more expensive devices which purchase is somewhat hard to justify considering the lack of top apps.

In any case, we’re glad to see more options popping up all the time. And at the end of the day, whether these phones are made by well-known companies or not may not matter that much…
