BlackBerry working on a new QWERTY slider?

The BlackBerry Torch won’t be the last QWERTY slider made by the Canadian company. If we can take BlackBerry’s recent patent filing for anything, they are working on another such device as we speak.

However, unlike the original Torch, this one has a different kind of keyboard, one that looks like Passport’s keyboard. We’re talking about a three-row setup and (most likely) support for touch-based gestures.

Here’s what the patent, filed June 14th, 2012 and revised on September 9th, 2014, says about this keyboard:

A keyboard portion is configured to move (with respect to a housing) between a deployed position and a non-deployed position. A cover pivotally couples to the housing and is configured to at least partially cover the keyboard portion when the keyboard portion is in the non-deployed position and to reveal the keyboard portion when the keyboard portion is in the deployed position. By one approach the cover is configured to move the keyboard portion between the deployed position and the non-deployed position as the cover pivots with respect to the housing.

According to BerryReview, the Canadian company is aiming to launch this phone sometime in early Q2 2015. The device will boast a 5.5-inch display; and yes, from what we can tell, it could be a hit among the BlackBerry fans.
