BlackBerry announced that it has sold 200,000 Passport smartphones, which at the moment are going for $599 in the U.S. and CA$699 in Canada.
The device has been sold out in 6 hours on BlackBerry’s website and within 10 hours on Amazon.com, according to the company’s CEO John Chen.
BlackBerry touts the Passport as a productivity tool that allows business users to more efficiently manage their email, edit documents and spreadsheets, while on the go.
While 200,000 is an impressive figure for the struggling Canadian vendor, the number is like nothing compared to that of Apple, which managed to move 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units in its first week. Then again, BlackBerry is positioning its product as niche offering. And, again, I can’t wait to try it out…
