The long-time rumored LG mobile chip has been officially announced. It’s not the best solution we’ve seen, but it’s a solid first product. Dubbed NUCLUN, it is a 32-bit octa-core SoC that uses ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture to combine four high performance Cortex A-15 cores clocked at 1.5GHz with four battery-friendly Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.2GHz. Additionally, the chip also comes with integrated LTE-A connectivity, supporting download speeds of up to 225Mbps.

Alongside the chip, LG also unveiled the first phone to use it. The new LG G3 Screen features the same design language as the LG G3, but comes with a bigger 5.9-inch screen with full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution (as opposed to G3’s Quad HD display).

The rest of specs include 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 13-megapixel camera with OIS+, 2.1MP front-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat is running the show with LG’s own software singing on top.

Size wise, the G3 Screen measures 157.8 x 81.8 x 9.5 mm, and has a weight of 182 grams. It will be available in black or white; the price has not been unveiled and it will likely vary across the world.
