Motorola is making another play for India’s competitive premium mid-range smartphone market. The company has launched the Edge 70 Pro, a device that combines flagship-level specs with mid-range pricing to attract users who want premium features without the premium price tag.
The timing makes sense for Motorola. India’s smartphone market has been increasingly focused on value-oriented premium devices, and the Edge series has been one of Motorola’s key weapons in competing against OnePlus, Realme, and Xiaomi in this crucial segment.
The Edge 70 Pro centers around a 6.8-inch 1.5K pOLED display that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and peaks at an impressive 5200 nits brightness. The screen includes HDR10+ support, 10-bit color depth, and Pantone validation for color accuracy. This puts it in direct competition with flagship displays from more expensive phones.
Under the hood, Motorola chose the Dimensity 8500 Extreme chipset, paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.1 storage. The phone runs Android 16 and comes with a solid update promise: three years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches. This extended support timeline has become increasingly important to Indian consumers who tend to keep their phones longer.
The camera setup focuses on a triple 50MP system. The main camera includes optical image stabilization, while the ultra-wide sensor doubles as a macro camera. The front-facing camera also hits 50MP and can record 4K video. Motorola has added several AI-powered imaging tools and editing features to help the cameras compete with established camera leaders.
Battery life gets serious attention with a 6500mAh cell that supports 90W fast charging. This capacity puts the Edge 70 Pro ahead of many competitors and should easily handle heavy daily use. The phone also includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning and carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings plus military-grade durability certification.
Connectivity covers the essentials with 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC. Motorola offers the phone in three Pantone-inspired colors: Lily White, Tea, and Titan.
Pricing starts at Rs 38,999 (about $415) for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model, while the 12GB RAM version costs Rs 41,999 (roughly $450). Sales begin April 29 through Flipkart, Motorola’s website, and physical retail stores. Launch promotions include:
- Rs 2,000 discount with select bank cards
- Equivalent exchange bonus for trade-ins
The Edge 70 Pro represents Motorola’s continued push to establish itself as a serious alternative in India’s premium mid-range space. With OnePlus and Xiaomi dominating this price segment, Motorola is betting that its combination of clean Android experience, solid build quality, and competitive specs can win over users looking for something different.
Motorola is also expected to introduce an Edge 70 Pro+ variant soon, though no official details have been confirmed yet. This suggests the company sees enough opportunity in this market segment to warrant multiple models at different price points.
