Motorola is betting big on fashion-forward design with its latest flagship smartphone. The company announced the motorola edge 70 pro today, marking the debut of its new Collections by Motorola design philosophy that treats smartphones as personal accessories rather than just tech devices.
The edge 70 pro stands out in the crowded premium smartphone market by offering texture-rich finishes inspired by natural materials like wood and silk. This design-first approach comes as phone makers increasingly compete on aesthetics and personalization rather than just raw performance specs. The device also packs serious camera hardware with four 50MP sensors, positioning it against photography-focused flagships from Samsung and Google.
Collections by Motorola brings textile-inspired textures
The new Collections approach transforms how Motorola thinks about smartphone design. Instead of traditional plastic or glass backs, the edge 70 pro offers four distinct finishes that mimic premium materials:
- Natural wood finish – Features warm textures with visible grain patterns
- Wool-inspired finish – Soft texture designed for premium feel and modern aesthetics
- Acetate finish – Unique manufacturing process makes each device slightly different
- Silk-inspired finish – Smooth texture that maintains its premium look over time
Each finish comes in Pantone-curated dual-tone color combinations. The wood finish pairs PANTONE Chicory Coffee with Cocoa Cream accents, while the wool texture combines PANTONE Titan with Orient Blue highlights.
Four 50MP cameras target content creators
Photography remains a key battleground in premium smartphones, and Motorola is making aggressive claims about the edge 70 pro’s camera system. The device includes four 50MP cameras – the main sensor uses Sony’s LYTIA 710 technology with AI-powered imaging for better textures and contrast.
The standout feature is the 50MP periscope telephoto camera, which Motorola says is the thinnest in its category. It offers 3.5x optical zoom with optical image stabilization, plus AI-enhanced 50x Super Zoom for distant subjects. The 81mm equivalent focal length makes it suitable for portrait photography.
The camera setup also includes a 50MP ultrawide sensor with 122-degree field of view and a dedicated macro camera for close-up shots. A 50MP front camera handles selfies and supports 4K video recording.
Massive battery in ultra-thin design
Motorola claims the edge 70 pro is the thinnest and lightest device in its price category while packing a 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery. The company says this provides up to 78 hours of music streaming or 29 hours of video playback.
Fast charging support includes 90W TurboPower wired charging that delivers 12 hours of battery life in 9 minutes, plus 15W wireless charging. The thin profile comes from ultra-thin glass fiber layers combined with the fabric-inspired finishes in a quad-curved design.
Other specifications include a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and 5200 nits peak brightness, MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme processor, up to 12GB RAM, and Android 16 with Motorola’s moto ai features.
Sustainability focus and global rollout
The edge 70 pro includes several environmental improvements compared to previous generations. Motorola says it achieved a 25% reduction in product carbon footprint through measures like plastic-free packaging and 74% recycled metals in construction.
The device will launch in select countries across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific in the coming weeks. Motorola has not yet announced US availability or specific pricing beyond the EUR 539-639 category it competes in.
The focus on design and materials represents a shift for Motorola as smartphone hardware improvements plateau. By treating phones as fashion accessories with premium textures and curated colors, the company hopes to differentiate from competitors focused primarily on camera and performance specs.
