DJI has launched the Osmo Mobile 8P, a new smartphone gimbal that introduces remote control capabilities and improved subject tracking for content creators. The device features a detachable FrameTap remote controller that lets users capture shots from a distance with precise framing control.

The launch comes as smartphone video creation continues to grow, with creators demanding more professional tools that work with their existing devices. The Osmo Mobile 8P addresses this need by combining traditional gimbal stabilization with new remote shooting capabilities and smarter tracking technology.

The standout feature is the new FrameTap remote controller, which includes a screen that mirrors what the smartphone camera sees. Creators can use the remote’s joystick to control gimbal movement and zoom while shooting from a distance. The remote attaches magnetically to the gimbal handle and can be removed quickly when needed. It also controls the brightness and color temperature of the optional fill light module across eight different levels.

DJI has upgraded its subject tracking system with ActiveTrack 8.0, which the company says performs better in crowded environments like concerts and sporting events. The system can now track not just people and pets but also objects like cars and landmarks when paired with the optional Multifunctional Module 2. iPhone users get an alternative tracking option through Apple DockKit integration, which works directly with the native camera app.

The gimbal itself weighs 386 grams and includes DJI’s eighth-generation stabilization across three axes. It has a built-in tripod with a wider opening design for better stability, plus a 215mm extension rod. Battery life reaches up to 10 hours, and the built-in USB-C port can charge connected phones during use.

Creative shooting modes include:

  • DynamicZoom for cinematic zoom effects
  • Slow Shutter for light trail photography
  • Action Shot for fast-moving subjects
  • Widescreen mode for 2.35:1 aspect ratio recording

The gimbal supports 360-degree rotation for panoramic shots and can tilt forward for low-angle perspectives. This flexibility matters for creators who want to capture varied shots without repositioning their entire setup.

DJI offers three package options. The Standard Combo costs 159 EUR and includes the gimbal, phone clamp, FrameTap remote, cables, and storage pouch. The Advanced Tracking Combo adds the Multifunctional Module 2 for 189 EUR. The Creator Combo includes wireless microphone equipment for 219 EUR.

The pricing positions the Osmo Mobile 8P as a mid-range option in the smartphone gimbal market. The remote control feature addresses a common limitation of handheld gimbals, where creators previously needed someone else to operate the device for distant shots.

DJI Care Refresh protection plans are available with coverage for accidental damage, water damage, and normal wear. The one-year plan includes up to two replacements, while the two-year plan covers up to four replacements.

All three configurations are available immediately from DJI and authorized retailers, with shipping starting today. The company notes that actual performance may vary from laboratory test conditions, and users should check the official website for smartphone compatibility details.
