Sony Ericsson announces three new phones: Yari, Aino and Satio!

At today’s press conference, Sony Ericsson has announced three very interesting devices as part of their Entertainment Unlimited series. Let’s briefly go through each one of them, shall we. But before we do that, let me add that all three phones are 3G-enabled (HSPA), and all come with a built-in GPS receiver (A-GPS), accelerometer (for auto-rotation), Bluetooth, and memory expansion slot. Now let’s go into specifics:

  • Sony Ericsson Yari – slider phone designed for gaming. Features include 2.4-inch QVGA (240×320 pixels) screen, dedicated gaming keys, stereo speakers, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, pre-installed motion-sensitive games, YouTube app. Along with the phone, the box will also contain a 1GB memory card, EC500 phone stand and MH300 head set. Size wise, it measures 100x48x15.7 mm and has a weight of 115 grams. Once available, users will be able to grab Yari in either Achromatic Black or Cranberry White. (press release)
  • Sony Ericsson Aino – touch slider with 3-inch 240×432 pixels touchscreen and numeric keypad. There’s also the 8.1 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash on board, Wi-Fi connectivity support, and inside the box users will also find an 8GB memory card along with color-matched Wireless Stereo Headphone MH100 and design-matched Charging Stand EC100. Moreover, the phone comes with some very cool apps like instant messaging software, Facebook and YouTube apps, and there’s also support for Remote Play with PLAYSTATION 3, allowing users to control and access media content on PS3 from their phone. As for the size, the Aino measures 104x50x15.5 mm and weighs 134 grams. Two color options will be available – Obsidian Black and Luminous White. (press release)
  • Sony Ericsson Satio – the only smartphone on the list is actually Idou, the handset we’ve initially seen in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress. Specs speak for themselves: 12.1 megapixel camera, 3.5-inch nHD (640×360 pixels) touchscreen, WiFi, TV Out, S60 5th edition Symbian OS… you name it. Inside the box, buyers will find an 8GB memory card and color-matched stereo portable handsfree. Satio/Idou has dimensions of 112x55x13.3 mm, and weight of 126 grams. It will be available in three color options — Black, Silver and Bordeaux. (press release)

Finally, it’s also important to add that all three phones announced support microSD memory cards rather than Memory Stick Micro (M2). It seems that the Swedish-Japanese handset maker has finally turned to the industry standard, and we praise them for that!

As for pricing and availability information, all three phones should start selling in “early Q4,” while the pricing was not unveiled.
