Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update begins global rollout

Samsung’s highly anticipated One UI 8.5 update is finally rolling out globally to eligible Galaxy devices starting today, May 11. The update follows its initial debut in Korea on May 6 and will now expand to Europe, Hong Kong, India, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan over the coming days.

This marks a significant milestone for Samsung users who have been waiting for the latest software improvements. One UI 8.5 represents Samsung’s continued commitment to keeping its devices current with the latest features and security enhancements, even as the company manages one of the industry’s largest device ecosystems.

The Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were the first devices to receive the stable One UI 8.5 update. Now, Samsung is expanding availability to a much broader range of devices, prioritizing flagship models from the past two years. This approach reflects the company’s strategy of supporting premium devices with longer software lifecycles, a key selling point in today’s competitive smartphone market.

According to SamMobile, here’s the complete list of devices eligible for the One UI 8.5 update:

  • Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge
  • Galaxy S25 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold 7
  • Galaxy Z Flip 7
  • Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24 FE
  • Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold 6
  • Galaxy Z Flip 6
  • Galaxy Tab S10 series
  • Galaxy Tab S11 series

Samsung Germany has also hinted that some Galaxy A-series models might receive the update soon, though it remains unclear whether these mid-range devices will get One UI 8.5 alongside the flagship phones or at a later date. This potential inclusion would be significant, as it would extend premium software features to Samsung’s more affordable device lineup.

Users can check for the update by going to Settings > Software update on their devices. Those already running the One UI 8.5 beta will see a smaller download, while users upgrading from One UI 8 should expect a much larger update package of several gigabytes.

Samsung typically rolls out major updates in phases, meaning it could take up to two weeks for One UI 8.5 to reach all eligible devices across every region. This staggered approach helps the company manage server load and allows for quick fixes if any issues arise during the initial rollout phase.

The timing of this release is particularly important as Samsung continues to compete with Apple’s iOS updates and Google’s Android releases. By maintaining regular, feature-rich updates across multiple device generations, Samsung reinforces its position as a long-term Android partner for consumers who want their devices to stay current beyond the initial purchase.
