Lenovo has announced its new Legion Y70 gaming smartphone during its Tianxi AI All-in-One launch event. The 2026 model brings serious upgrades including a massive 8000mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, and a bright 2K OLED display designed for mobile gaming.

Gaming phones are becoming increasingly important as mobile games demand console-level performance. With companies like ASUS, Red Magic, and Lenovo competing for this niche market, each new release pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in a smartphone form factor. The Legion Y70’s combination of a huge battery and advanced cooling system addresses two of mobile gaming’s biggest pain points: battery life and thermal throttling.

The standout feature is the 6.82-inch 2K OLED display that reaches an impressive 7000 nits peak brightness – significantly brighter than most smartphones on the market. The screen supports adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 144Hz and covers 100% of the P3 color gamut. At 510 PPI, games and media should look incredibly sharp.

Under the hood, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor handles the heavy lifting, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. An interesting addition is quad-SIM dual-standby capability, combining two physical SIM slots with dual eSIMs – useful for gamers who travel frequently or need multiple network connections.

The 8000mAh “Star Ring” battery is one of the largest ever put in a smartphone. Lenovo claims it can last up to seven years and backs this with a four-year warranty that includes free battery replacement if capacity drops below 80%. The phone supports 90W fast charging and bypass power supply, which draws power directly from the charger during gaming sessions to reduce heat.

Thermal management uses a triple heat dissipation system combining thermal gel, liquid metal, and a vapor chamber. This is critical for sustained gaming performance, as even the fastest processors will throttle when they get too hot. The phone also carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for dust and water protection.

Camera specs include:

  • 50MP main camera with Sony LYT-710 sensor and optical image stabilization
  • 8MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro camera
  • 32MP front-facing camera

Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 7 support, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC. The phone runs Android 16 out of the box.

Pre-orders are now open with retail sales starting June 9th. Pricing in China starts at 2599 yuan (about $382) for the 12GB/256GB model, going up to 4399 yuan (about $646) for the top 16GB/1TB configuration. These prices are competitive for a flagship gaming phone, though international availability and pricing haven’t been announced yet.

The Legion Y70 represents Lenovo’s continued push into the gaming phone space, where brands need to balance extreme performance with practical daily use. The massive battery and advanced cooling could make this appealing beyond just gamers – anyone who uses their phone heavily throughout the day would benefit from these features.
