Xiaomi has launched the 17 Max in China, marking a significant step forward in smartphone photography. The flagship device brings the first 200MP Leica main camera to the company’s lineup, along with an 8000mAh battery that promises multi-day usage.

This launch comes as smartphone makers push the boundaries of mobile photography and battery capacity. While competitors focus on AI features and foldable designs, Xiaomi has doubled down on raw specifications that directly address user pain points: camera quality and battery life.

Premium design meets flagship specifications

The Xiaomi 17 Max follows the company’s signature design language with a four-curved frame and square camera module. The phone measures 77.6mm x 8.2mm and weighs 225 grams, making it substantial but manageable for a device with such a large battery.

Three color options are available:

  • White
  • Sky Blue
  • Pixel Black

The 6.9-inch flat screen offers 2K resolution with Xiaomi’s SuperPixel Technology, which the company claims is more power-efficient than traditional 1.5K displays. Peak brightness reaches 3500 nits thanks to the M10 material in the Sunlight Display technology.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers flagship performance

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Max runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The phone includes a 3D ring-shaped cooling system designed to handle intensive gaming sessions. Xiaomi claims the device can run Genshin Impact at maximum graphics settings while maintaining full frame rate for 5.7 hours.

Memory configurations include:

  • 12GB/16GB RAM options
  • 256GB/512GB storage variants
  • Stereo dual speakers
  • Xiaomi Star Communication for improved connectivity

Triple Leica camera system breaks new ground

The camera setup represents a major milestone for Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica. The 200MP main sensor features a 1/1.4-inch size with ultra-high transmittance pyramid coating and supports 200MP multi-frame fusion processing.

The complete camera array includes:

  • 200MP Leica main camera with large sensor
  • 50MP ultrawide-angle lens with electronic image stabilization
  • 50MP periscope telephoto with 1/2-inch sensor
  • 3x portrait focal length and 6x optical zoom
  • 15cm macro photography capability
  • 32MP front-facing camera

Battery and charging push industry limits

The 8000mAh battery capacity puts the Xiaomi 17 Max among the highest-capacity smartphones available. This massive battery supports multiple charging methods:

  • 100W wired charging
  • 50W wireless charging
  • 22.5W reverse wired charging

This combination addresses one of the biggest user complaints about flagship smartphones: poor battery life despite premium pricing.

Pricing and availability details

Pre-orders for the Xiaomi 17 Max are now open, with general sales starting May 25. The pricing structure reflects the flagship positioning:

  • 12GB + 256GB: 4,299 yuan ($590)
  • 16GB + 256GB: 4,599 yuan ($630)
  • 12GB + 512GB: 4,899 yuan ($675)
  • 16GB + 512GB: 5,299 yuan ($730)

These prices position the device competitively against other flagship phones while offering unique features like the 200MP camera and massive battery capacity. The Xiaomi 17 Max represents the company’s commitment to hardware innovation in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
