Honor has expanded its tablet lineup with the Pad 20, a mid-range Android device that targets students and professionals with AI-powered productivity features. The company announced the tablet alongside new smartphones and a smartwatch in China.
The Pad 20 stands out with its Soft Light Edition variant, which uses a matte coating to reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions. This positions the tablet to compete with dedicated e-readers while maintaining full Android functionality.
Display and design variants
The Honor Pad 20 has a 12.1-inch TFT LCD display with 3000 x 1872 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The screen supports DCI-P3 color coverage and reaches up to 700 nits brightness for outdoor use.
Honor offers two main versions:
- Standard Lingyue Edition with traditional glossy display
- Soft Light Edition with dual anti-glare coating that mimics paper texture
The anti-glare version targets users who spend long hours reading or taking notes. The matte finish reduces reflections and eye fatigue, making it easier to use in bright environments.
Performance and software features
The tablet runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, which includes:
- One Cortex-A715 core at 2.63GHz
- Three Cortex-A715 cores at 2.4GHz
- Four Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz
Honor’s MagicOS 10 interface, based on Android 16, includes desktop-style layouts and multi-window support. The company has added AI tools specifically for students, including automatic course transcription, note organization, and exam preparation assistance.
The tablet supports Honor’s Magic-Pencil 4s stylus via USB-C connection. This allows for detailed note-taking and drawing, competing with similar productivity tablets from Samsung and Apple.
Cross-platform connectivity
One notable feature is the Pad 20’s ability to work with devices beyond Android. Honor has included compatibility with:
- Android devices for file sharing and collaboration
- HarmonyOS devices for seamless integration
- iOS devices including AirPods pairing and cross-device editing
This cross-platform approach addresses a common pain point for users who work across different ecosystems.
Camera and battery specifications
Both front and rear cameras use 8MP sensors, with the rear camera including autofocus capabilities. While not groundbreaking, these should handle video calls and document scanning adequately.
The 10,100mAh battery comes with a 45W charger, though the tablet supports up to 66W charging with compatible adapters. Honor has also included a six-speaker audio setup for media consumption.
Pricing and availability
Honor has priced the Pad 20 competitively across multiple configurations:
Lingyue Edition:
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: $315
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: $345
Soft-Light Edition:
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: $375
- 8GB RAM + 256GB storage: $450
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage: $510
The tablet comes in Gray, Green, and Pink colors. Orders are open now in China, with general availability starting May 27th. Honor has not announced international release plans yet.
The pricing puts the Pad 20 in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A series and entry-level iPad models, while the anti-glare display option provides a unique selling point in the crowded tablet market.
