Acer is making a bold bet on supersized Android tablets with three new models that blur the line between tablets and laptops. The company launched the Iconia Duo lineup featuring unusually large displays ranging from 12.2 to 14.2 inches, all with productivity-focused 3:2 aspect ratios.

The move puts Acer in direct competition with premium tablet makers like Apple and Microsoft, targeting users who want tablet portability without sacrificing screen real estate. At a time when many consumers are seeking laptop alternatives for work and creative tasks, these oversized Android tablets could fill a specific niche.

Budget option: Iconia Duo D12 starts at $399

The entry-level Iconia Duo D12 offers the most accessible path into Acer’s large-tablet ecosystem. For $399 in the US (329 Euros in Europe), buyers get:

  • 12.2-inch display with 2400 x 1600 resolution and 90Hz refresh rate
  • MediaTek Helio G99 processor
  • 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB UFS storage
  • 30.4 Wh battery
  • WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity
  • USB-C port and microSD slot supporting up to 1TB expansion

The tablet measures 277.8 x 191.3 x 7.5mm and weighs 620 grams. Camera specs are basic but functional, with an 8MP rear shooter and 5MP front camera for video calls. Optional accessories include a pressure-sensitive stylus, magnetic kickstand, and detachable keyboard. The D12 will arrive in North America this August.

Mid-range model: Iconia Duo S12 ups the performance

Stepping up to the $549 Iconia Duo S12 brings meaningful improvements in a slimmer package. This 12.2-inch model measures just 6.5mm thick and weighs 580 grams, while offering:

  • Higher resolution 2880 x 1840 display with 120Hz refresh rate
  • MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor for better performance
  • 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB storage
  • Aluminum alloy construction
  • Improved cameras: 13MP rear, 8MP front

The S12 targets users who want premium build quality and smoother performance without jumping to the flagship tier. It’s also scheduled for August availability.

Premium flagship: Iconia Duo S14 offers laptop-like versatility

The $699 Iconia Duo S14 represents Acer’s most ambitious Android tablet yet. Its 14.2-inch OLED display with 2880 x 1840 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate rivals many laptops for screen quality and size.

Key premium features include:

  • Quad speaker system for enhanced audio
  • Larger 38 Wh battery
  • WiFi 6E support
  • Dual USB-C ports
  • DisplayPort input capability
  • Triple camera system: 13MP main, 5MP macro, 8MP front

The DisplayPort input feature sets the S14 apart, allowing it to function as a portable monitor for laptops, phones, or other devices. This dual functionality could appeal to mobile professionals and content creators who need flexible display options.

Android 16 and uncertain software support

All three tablets will ship with Android 16, giving them a head start on the latest Google features. However, Acer hasn’t specified how long software and security updates will continue, leaving potential buyers uncertain about long-term support.

The Iconia Duo S14 will arrive slightly later than its siblings, with North American availability planned for September. These tablets represent Acer’s attempt to carve out space in the premium Android tablet market, where options beyond Samsung’s Galaxy Tab series remain limited.
