Vivo has launched its S60 series in China, introducing two new midrange smartphones that focus heavily on battery life and camera capabilities. The lineup consists of the standard S60 and a more affordable S60 Vitality Edition.
Both devices pack unusually large 7,200mAh batteries for their price segment, positioning them as strong competitors in China’s crowded midrange market where battery endurance increasingly matters to consumers.
Display and design differences
The standard S60 features a 6.59-inch flat display with 1260p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Both models include the same 50-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Vivo designed both phones with what it calls a “seamless cold-carved glass back panel” paired with a metal frame. The new “Starry Sea” finish uses layered lithography and 3D etching techniques to create a textured, reflective surface. Additional color options include Early Summer Green and Midsummer Night.
Camera systems and AI features
The camera setup differs between the two models. The standard S60 includes a triple-camera arrangement:
- 50-megapixel main sensor
- 8-megapixel ultrawide camera
- 50-megapixel IMX882 periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
The Vitality Edition drops the telephoto lens but keeps the 50-megapixel main and 8-megapixel ultrawide cameras.
Both phones support 4K Live capture and include several new camera effects. These include a “Cool White Portrait” mode, customizable Live color grading tools, and a “Starlight Live” effect that adds animated sparkle-like highlights to bright areas in photos and videos.
Vivo also introduced a “3D Spatial Visual Effects” feature that converts Live Photos into glasses-free 3D images using motion effects when the phone is tilted or shaken.
Performance and hardware
The processor choice separates the two models significantly. The standard S60 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, while the Vitality Edition uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7500 chipset.
Both phones share several key features:
- 7,200mAh batteries with 90W wired charging
- IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance
- Stereo speakers
- Infrared remote functionality
- X-axis linear motors
Pricing and availability
The Vivo S60 starts at 3,599 yuan (about $530) for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The top configuration with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage costs 4,399 yuan (about $648).
The S60 Vitality Edition starts at 2,899 yuan (about $428) for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, rising to 3,499 yuan (about $516) for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage version.
Vivo has not announced international release plans for the S60 series. The company typically keeps its S-series phones exclusive to the Chinese market, focusing on local preferences for camera features and design aesthetics.
