Poco X8 Pro Yellow Edition arrives with racing stripes and RGB lighting

Poco has launched a Yellow Edition of its X8 Pro smartphone that brings motorsport aesthetics to the mid-range market. The new variant features racing stripes across the back panel and integrated RGB lighting in the camera module, wrapped in a premium build with metal frame and glass back.

The timing reflects Xiaomi’s strategy to differentiate its Poco brand through bold design choices while maintaining competitive pricing. Special edition smartphones have become increasingly popular as manufacturers look for ways to stand out in the crowded Android market, particularly in the price-sensitive mid-range segment where the X8 Pro competes.

Under the hood, the Yellow Edition shares the same specifications as the standard X8 Pro. The MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, built on a 4nm process, delivers strong performance for gaming and daily tasks while keeping power consumption in check. The processor maintains consistent speeds despite some thermal throttling under heavy sustained loads.

The display stands out as a key selling point with its 6.59-inch AMOLED panel offering several premium features:

  • 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming
  • Peak brightness exceeding 3,400 cd/m² for outdoor visibility
  • High PWM dimming frequency of 3,840 Hz to reduce eye strain
  • 1.5K resolution for sharp text and images

Photography capabilities center around a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization that captures solid daylight photos and 4K video. However, the ultra-wide and front-facing cameras deliver more modest results typical of this price range.

The 6,500 mAh battery uses silicon-carbon technology to pack more capacity into a smaller space while supporting 100W fast charging. This combination addresses two common smartphone pain points – battery life and charging speed – that matter most to the target gaming audience.

Connectivity includes modern standards like Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and 5G dual-SIM support. The main limitation is the USB 2.0 port, which lacks high-speed data transfer and video output capabilities that some users might expect.

The Yellow Edition will be available in three storage configurations: 8GB/256GB, 8GB/512GB, and 12GB/512GB, with pricing starting at $369. This positions it directly against other gaming-focused mid-range phones from Realme, OnePlus, and other Chinese manufacturers competing for the same performance-conscious buyers who want flagship features without flagship prices.
