Samsung accelerates One UI 8.5 rollout to budget Galaxy phones

Samsung has expanded its One UI 8.5 rollout to include several budget-friendly Galaxy A and M series smartphones, marking a significant step in bringing Android 16 features to more affordable devices. The stable update is now reaching models like the Galaxy A34, A25, A16 4G, A06, M35, and M16 across select regions including South Korea and India.

This expansion comes after Samsung successfully deployed One UI 8.5 to its premium flagship devices, foldables, tablets, and mid-range phones. The company’s decision to accelerate the rollout to budget models shows its commitment to providing consistent software experiences across its entire device lineup, regardless of price point.

The rollout represents Samsung’s largest budget phone update push in recent memory. According to reports, multiple Galaxy A series devices are receiving the update simultaneously, which is unusual for Samsung’s typical staggered approach to budget phone updates.

Here are the specific models and firmware versions currently receiving One UI 8.5:

  • Galaxy A34: Firmware A346NKSUEFZE6 (South Korea)
  • Galaxy A25: Firmware A256NKSU9EZE8 (South Korea)
  • Galaxy A16 4G: Firmware A165NKSU7DZE7 (South Korea)
  • Galaxy A06 5G: Firmware A066BXXU6CZE6 (India)
  • Galaxy M16 5G: Firmware M166PXXU5DZE2 (South Korea)
  • Galaxy M35 5G: Firmware M356BXXU8DZE3 (India)

One UI 8.5 builds on Android 16 QPR2 and brings several improvements to Samsung’s software experience. The update includes new Quick Panel customization options, refreshed core apps, enhanced system stability, and smoother animations throughout the interface. While the changes aren’t as dramatic as major version updates, they represent meaningful quality-of-life improvements for daily usage.

This accelerated rollout timing is particularly noteworthy in the Android ecosystem. Budget phones typically receive major updates months after premium devices, but Samsung’s current pace suggests the company is working to reduce that gap. This strategy helps Samsung compete more effectively against Chinese manufacturers who have been improving their update schedules for affordable phones.

The phased rollout means not all users will see the update immediately, even in supported regions. Samsung typically expands availability gradually to monitor for any issues before full deployment. Users can check for the update manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

For installation, Samsung recommends having at least 30% battery charge and connecting to a stable Wi-Fi network, as One UI 8.5 is considered a major system update. The firmware version numbers may vary slightly depending on the specific region and carrier requirements.

This update strategy reflects broader industry trends where manufacturers are under increasing pressure to provide longer software support across all price segments. Google’s recent Pixel updates and Apple’s iOS support timeline have raised consumer expectations, pushing Android manufacturers to improve their update delivery systems.
