Honor has launched the X7e in select global markets with a 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery at just $225. The phone costs MYR 899 in Malaysia for the 6GB/256GB configuration, making it one of the most affordable smartphones to feature silicon-carbon battery technology.
The timing matters. Silicon-carbon batteries have been appearing in flagship phones throughout 2026, but Honor’s decision to include this technology in a budget device signals that the premium battery chemistry is reaching mainstream price points faster than expected. This shift could change how consumers think about budget phones and battery life.
The Honor X7e doesn’t hide what it is – a budget phone that makes smart compromises. The MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra chipset handles everyday tasks like social media, messaging, and video streaming without issues, but won’t satisfy demanding gamers or heavy multitaskers. The 6.61-inch TFT LCD runs at HD+ resolution (1604×720) with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,010 nits peak brightness. It’s a budget panel, but bright enough for outdoor use and smooth enough for daily scrolling.
What separates the X7e from typical budget phones is that 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery. Silicon-carbon anodes store significantly more charge per gram than conventional graphite cells, allowing Honor to pack this capacity into an 8.3mm chassis weighing 200 grams. The result is a manageable device rather than a brick. The battery supports 45W fast charging and 7.5W reverse wired charging, effectively turning the phone into a power bank for other devices – a feature normally found on phones twice the price.
Budget phones break. That’s the common experience. The Honor X7e addresses this with 1.8-meter drop resistance certification and IP64 dust and splash protection. These certifications matter more on budget devices precisely because budget buyers are less likely to invest in protective cases and more likely to use their phone in demanding environments. If your $225 phone survives a typical waist-height drop to pavement, it changes the daily risk calculation.
The phone ships with Android 16 and MagicOS 10 out of the box, giving it a head start over most budget devices that still ship with Android 14 or 15. This baseline matters for feature access and security patch currency from day one, though Honor’s long-term update commitment for budget devices remains unclear.
The X7e is available in Sunrise Orange, Midnight Black, and Blue. The silicon-carbon battery technology represents a broader trend in the smartphone industry, where premium features typically reserved for flagship devices are trickling down to budget segments more quickly than in previous years. As manufacturers scale production of silicon-carbon batteries, costs decrease, making inclusion in budget phones economically viable.
This development could pressure other budget phone makers to adopt similar battery technologies to remain competitive, potentially raising the baseline expectations for battery life in the sub-$250 smartphone segment.
