Google is taking a different approach to combat digital overwhelm. Instead of endless feeds and infinite scroll, the company wants to give you a curated, finite collection of personalized stories each day.
The search giant’s experimental arm Google Labs has launched Dreambeans, an AI-powered app that creates daily story collections based on your Google data. The app connects information from Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search history to generate personalized content with custom illustrations.
The concept is simple but potentially powerful. Dreambeans scans your connected Google apps for relevant information and creates stories designed to inspire action or provide useful recommendations. In one example, the app detected a Gmail confirmation for delivered puppy treats and automatically surfaced dog training tips. It also noticed a calendar reminder about a friend visiting and suggested nearby dog-friendly restaurants.
Each story includes unique illustrations that reflect the people and places most important to you. Users can tap any story to get deeper information sourced from across the web, save favorites to a personal library, or provide feedback to improve future recommendations. The app also allows manual input for interests it might have missed.
This represents Google’s latest attempt to apply its Personal Intelligence and Nano Banana 2 AI technologies to everyday problems. The tech industry has increasingly focused on reducing digital overwhelm as users report fatigue from constantly refreshing social media feeds and news apps. By creating a finite, personalized experience, Google is betting that quality curation can beat endless quantity.
Privacy controls remain with users. Dreambeans requires at least one connected Google app but works best with all enabled. Users choose which apps to connect, and these choices don’t affect Personal Intelligence settings in other Google products like Gemini Apps or AI Mode.
The app is rolling out today for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States on both Android and iOS. Other users can join a waitlist through the Dreambeans website using their personal Google accounts.
Google’s timing is notable as competitors like Apple and Microsoft push their own AI-powered personalization features. The company is clearly positioning Personal Intelligence as a key differentiator, using the vast amount of data it already has about users’ digital lives to create more meaningful experiences rather than just more content to consume.
