Motorola is pushing deeper into premium smartphone territory with its latest release. The company officially unveiled the Edge 70 Pro+, an upgraded version of the Edge 70 Pro that launched in April.
The new model takes direct aim at flagship phones from Samsung and Google with standout features like a periscope zoom camera and an incredibly bright display. At $500, it undercuts many premium phones while offering specs that compete with devices costing hundreds more.
The Edge 70 Pro+ runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 Extreme processor, paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4 storage. This combination should deliver smooth performance for demanding apps and games.
The 6.8-inch Super HD+ AMOLED display is one of the phone’s biggest selling points. It has a resolution of 2772×1272 pixels and supports a 144Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling. The screen can reach a peak brightness of 5200 nits, making it easily readable even in direct sunlight. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max maxes out at around 2000 nits.
The display also has HDR10+ support, Pantone color certification, and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It’s curved on all four sides, giving it a modern premium look.
Camera performance is where Motorola really wants to stand out. The Edge 70 Pro+ has four 50-megapixel cameras:
- Main camera with Sony LYTIA 710 sensor and optical image stabilization
- Periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom
- Ultra-wide camera that also handles macro shots
- Front-facing camera with autofocus for better selfies
This camera setup can record 4K video at 60fps and includes AI-powered image processing features. The periscope zoom lens is particularly noteworthy since it’s usually found only in much more expensive phones.
Battery life looks impressive with a 6580 mAh silicon-carbon battery. Motorola claims this provides up to 51 hours of continuous use. The phone supports 90W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging to power other devices.
The phone has IP68 and IP69 water resistance ratings, plus MIL-STD-810H military certification for durability. Audio features include dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
On the software side, the Edge 70 Pro+ runs Android 16 with Motorola’s Hello UI interface and Moto AI 2.0 features. The company promises three major Android updates and five years of security patches.
This launch reflects Motorola’s strategy to offer flagship features at more accessible prices. While brands like Samsung and Apple charge $1000 or more for phones with similar specs, Motorola is betting that consumers will choose value over brand prestige.
The Edge 70 Pro+ will be available starting June 11 in a single configuration with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage for $500. This pricing puts it in direct competition with Google’s Pixel 8a and Samsung’s Galaxy A series phones, while offering more premium features than either.
