Xiaomi 18 Pro is going global, and it’s bringing that rear display with it

The rear display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro was one of the most talked-about phone features of its year. And then Xiaomi kept it in China. That stung. But the company has now confirmed the Xiaomi 18 Pro is heading to global markets, rear screen and all, and that changes the conversation significantly.

The 18 Pro carries the codename VENICE and model number M261DB for China, with 26122PN61G covering global variants. Confirmed markets include Turkey, the EEA, Russia, Taiwan, and Japan. India is notably absent, though Xiaomi hasn’t explained why. It’s a wide rollout for a flagship that was previously the kind of device only Chinese buyers could get their hands on.

The rear display is the headline here, and rightly so. Secondary screens on the back of a phone used to be a novelty trick pulled by a few niche brands. Xiaomi made it feel genuinely useful on the 17 Pro, and fans outside China were vocal about being left out. Bringing it to global models isn’t just a spec upgrade, it’s Xiaomi acknowledging that its international audience wants the full experience, not a watered-down version.

On the hardware side, the 18 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. That’s the chip you’d expect in a top-tier 2026 flagship, and it should keep the 18 Pro competitive with whatever Samsung and Apple are pushing at the same price point. The camera setup is where things get genuinely interesting though.

Xiaomi is using two new 200MP sensors from SmartSens. The main camera gets a large 1/1.28-inch 3.0 LOFIC sensor, which is a serious piece of hardware for low-light and detail capture. A second 200MP sensor handles secondary shooting duties. That’s a lot of megapixels on paper, but paired with sensors of this quality, it should translate to real-world results rather than just marketing numbers. There’s also an AI button built in, likely tied to camera and smart assistant features, though exact details on that are still thin.

Xiaomi’s sales numbers from the 17 series give some context for why the company is pushing harder globally. The 17 series moved 5.08 million units in China alone by the 22nd week of 2026. Replicating even a fraction of that in international markets would be a significant win, and a proper global flagship with the rear display feature intact gives Xiaomi a real differentiator. Most Android flagships look and feel pretty similar right now. A secondary rear display is at least something different.

  • Rear display confirmed for global models
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset
  • Dual 200MP SmartSens camera sensors
  • 1/1.28-inch main sensor with LOFIC technology
  • AI button for smart features
  • Available in Turkey, EEA, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, and other markets

No pricing or firm release date has been confirmed yet. But the global launch itself is the news. Xiaomi has spent years building a reputation in premium Android, and keeping its best features locked to China undermined that effort. The 18 Pro going global with no compromises, at least on the rear display front, suggests the company is taking international flagship competition seriously this time.
