Google’s Pixel Watch 5 is getting a Stephen Curry special edition

Google is leaning hard into its Stephen Curry partnership, and this time it’s coming for your wrist. Leaked marketing materials have revealed a Stephen Curry Special Edition Pixel Watch 5, just days before Google is expected to officially announce the smartwatch. Before you get too excited though, let’s be clear about what you’re actually buying here.

The watch itself is the standard 45mm LTE Pixel Watch 5. The “special edition” part lives entirely in the band. Leaked renders show a woven loop band in stone gray and taupe with bright orange accents and a striped section on the tail. A small brown label on the band carries “STEPHEN CURRY” and “#LockIn” branding. It’s a good-looking band, honestly. The orange pops, the woven texture feels premium, and the color story is cohesive. But it is, at its core, just a band.

Google’s marketing materials describe the band as designed with the NBA star in mind, with a water-repellent coating built for intense workouts. So there’s at least a functional angle here, not just celebrity branding slapped on for the sake of it.

Pricing comes in at €579.99, which works out to roughly $669. The standard 45mm LTE Pixel Watch 5 is expected to land at around €549, or about $634. So the Curry premium costs you approximately €31, around $35. For a special edition band and some co-branded bragging rights, that’s actually not outrageous. Plenty of watch bands cost more than that on their own.

This isn’t Google’s first rodeo with Curry either. Earlier this year, the company dropped a Stephen Curry Edition Fitbit Air with similar brown-and-orange tones, Curry branding, and a workout-focused pitch. The Pixel Watch 5 edition looks like a direct continuation of that design language rather than a fresh creative direction. Google is clearly building this into a recurring thing, which makes sense. Curry has serious fitness credibility and genuine appeal beyond basketball fans.

A few other details worth knowing:

  • The leaked render shows the watch face displaying August 20, the rumored on-sale date for the Pixel Watch 5
  • Google’s own marketing reportedly flags that the Curry edition is available only while supplies last
  • It will not be available in all countries, so global fans may be out of luck
  • The edition is based on the 45mm LTE model specifically

The limited availability angle is worth taking seriously. Google has a habit of moving these special editions fast, and if the Fitbit Air collab built any kind of fanbase for the Curry aesthetic, demand could outpace supply quickly. If this is on your radar, waiting around is probably not the move.

Big picture, this kind of celebrity collaboration is becoming a standard playbook for smartwatch brands trying to reach fitness-oriented buyers who might not otherwise care about specs. It works because it shifts the conversation from gigahertz and sensor arrays to identity and lifestyle. Google gets that. And at $35 over the base price, this one is priced to actually sell rather than just generate headlines.
