Vivo T5 5G is coming to India and it’s gunning for the slim phone crowd

Vivo’s T5 series is already crowded, but apparently not crowded enough. The company just quietly confirmed a new addition through a Flipkart microsite, and this one is simply called the Vivo T5 5G. No “Pro”, no “x”, no “Lite”. Just the T5, sitting right in the middle of a lineup that already has four models. According to 91Mobiles, the phone will be sold exclusively on Flipkart, though Vivo hasn’t locked in a launch date yet.

The teaser page is light on specs but heavy on design flex. Vivo is claiming the T5 5G will have the slimmest 3D curved display in its price segment, with a body that measures just 0.799 cm thin. That’s a bold claim, and if it holds up, it’ll genuinely stand out in a price range where most phones still feel chunky. The phone is priced between Rs 34,999 and Rs 49,999, which is a wide window, but expect the base variant to land somewhere under Rs 40,000.

On the software and AI side, the T5 5G will run OriginOS and come with what Vivo is calling a “GenAI-ready NPU”. Every mid-range phone right now is pushing AI features as a selling point, so take that with a grain of salt until we see what it actually does in practice. Still, OriginOS has been decent on other Vivo devices, so there’s at least a base of something real there.

Here’s why this launch makes sense right now. The Vivo T5 Pro 5G, which launched in April at Rs 29,999, has since jumped to Rs 41,999. That’s a massive price hike in just a few months, driven largely by rising memory costs hitting the whole smartphone industry. Meanwhile, the T5x 5G starts at Rs 24,999. That gap between Rs 25K and Rs 42K is where Vivo needs coverage, and the T5 5G is clearly the answer.

The broader context here matters too. Memory prices have been squeezing manufacturers across the board, pushing prices up on models that used to be considered affordable mid-rangers. Vivo isn’t alone in this, but the T5 series has been hit particularly hard with the T5 Pro’s steep climb. Launching a new model gives Vivo a chance to offer a fresh option with newer features at a price point that feels more intentional than the T5 Pro’s current position.

So what’s actually worth paying attention to with the T5 5G? A few things stand out from the teaser:

  • 0.799 cm slim body with a 3D curved display
  • OriginOS out of the box
  • GenAI-ready NPU for on-device AI features
  • Flipkart exclusive availability
  • Price range of Rs 34,999 to Rs 49,999

If you’re shopping in this price range and a slim, curved-screen design is a priority, it’s worth holding off until the full launch drops. Vivo hasn’t said when that’ll be, but the Flipkart listing being live usually means a formal date is close. Keep an eye on this one.
