Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra in two sizes? Don’t buy the hype just yet

Leaked CAD renders are the lifeblood of the smartphone rumor mill, and the latest one making the rounds claims the Galaxy S27 Ultra could come in two different sizes. Bold claim. Except there’s almost nothing to back it up.

The leak comes from @SonnyDickson on X, who shared what are reportedly CAD renders of the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Two things got people talking. First, the camera bar design looks strikingly similar to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is its own conversation. Second, the renders appear to show two different-sized devices, which some people have jumped on as proof that Samsung is planning a larger and smaller Ultra variant. As reported by SamMobile, this would make the S27 Ultra the fourth model in Samsung’s already crowded flagship lineup.

Here’s the problem with that theory. There is zero confirmation that these renders are even accurate. CAD leaks can be wildly off base, and building a whole narrative around two renders appearing at different scales is a stretch. A big one. If the renders were simply displayed at different zoom levels or exported at different sizes, that alone would explain the size discrepancy without any second Ultra model existing at all.

But let’s say, just for a second, that Samsung actually is considering this. Would it make sense? Honestly, no. The Galaxy S series already asks buyers to pick between the S27, S27+, and S27 Ultra. Adding another Ultra variant that’s only different in physical size adds confusion without adding real value. It waters down what the Ultra is supposed to mean, which is Samsung’s best, most capable, no-compromise phone. Two sizes of that? It starts to feel like a lineup decision made by a spreadsheet, not a product team.

Samsung has been under pressure to compete with Apple’s increasingly popular Pro Max sizing strategy, so the idea isn’t completely out of left field. But copying Apple’s playbook that directly, especially after years of positioning the Ultra as its own thing, would be a strange move.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is still many months away. Between now and launch, expect a flood of rumors with varying degrees of credibility. This one sits firmly in the “interesting but unverified” pile. Keep your excitement in check until something more solid surfaces.
